Spanish submarine built for Malaysia

The company Navantia come down to the water a second diesel-electric submarine (DEPL) project Scorpene, built to order Malaysian Navy. According to Altair, her baptism ceremony took place in the Spanish city of Cartago in the presence of the King and Queen of Malaysia.

The new submarine is called "Tun Razak." Envisaged that the Malaysian Navy would be handed over in October 2009.

Recall that the construction of two Scorpene submarines for the Malaysian project carried out by a consortium comprising French company DCNS and Spanish Navantia. The contract was signed in 2002. Its value was approximately 1.5 billion dollars.

The first submarine, named "Tank, Abdul Rahman, was built in the French Cherbourg and launched in October 2007. In June this year it completed factory testing. The transfer of Navy submarine Malaysia scheduled for January next year.

DEPL project Scorpene submarine has a displacement 1740 tons, a length of 67.6 meters and the maximum width of 8 meters. It can dive to a depth of 350 meters and a speed up to 20.5 knots (38.3 kilometers per hour). Submarine can autonomously perform tasks within 45 days with a crew of 31 people. Armament includes six torpedo tubes 533 mm caliber, designed to launch torpedoes and anti-missiles.
